Special projects, board & advisory roles

Board member & Special Projects Lead
Lo Fi Dance Theory

Lo Fi Dance Theory was founded by Wynn Holmes in 2017 to support the development, creation, and presentation of works that find their inspiration or form in dance. Comprised of a contemporary dance company, an international class series, and a research platform that unites dance artists and renowned multidisciplinary collaborators with the public, Lo Fi Dance Theory creates a community of exchange that fosters dance-centered collaborations in Canada and internationally.

PROJECT ADVISOR
The Climate Disaster Project (University of Victoria, School of Journalism)

The Climate Disaster Project’s faculty and students identify communities that have been affected by climate change. We then work with members of those communities to share their stories using a trauma-informed interviewing process developed in consultation with climate disaster survivors and leading trauma experts. That process involves climate disaster survivors co-creating the questions for their own interview with our students or faculty. The result is a transcript of the interview and video or audio recordings.

Board Member & research support | GiveLOVE Canada (2020)

GiveLove is a skills training organization founded by Academy Award-winning actress and activist Patricia Arquette in January 2010, after the devastating earthquake in Haiti. GiveLove is dedicated to the teaching and promotion of Ecological Sanitation and composting. We work hands-on with schools, communities and local organizations to provide affordable toilets and on-site treatment solutions for high-need and water-scarce areas.

Community collaborations

Collaborator, co-founder & co-conspirator | The Vancouver Community Fridge Project (2020)

The Vancouver Community Fridge Project is a decentralized food distribution network and mutual aid initiative created to provide healthy, free food and essential supplies to our communities across lower mainland. Their mission is to combat food insecurity by encouraging communities to take part in laterally-directed mutual aid, starting with providing free, safe, non-policed, accessible and nutritious foods through community fridges and pantries.

Organizer | Ashcroft Wildfire Flash Fundraiser (2017)

“When news of the Elephant Hill wildfire reached Julia Kidder in Norway, she knew she had to do something to help. And with the assistance of family and friends, she organized a “flash fundraiser” that raised $6,000 for the Ashcroft Indian Band.”

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped with this incredible event. To all of the artists who donated their artwork, to the bands who played and community members who shared stories. My heart goes out to all affected by the Elephant Hill wildfire, and to anyone who has experienced fire close to home.
